The line goes AROUND the cube!?

This is one of those stories that makes you stop and think... Wow, can anyone really be THAT stupid? I can honestly say that after this happened I am totally convinced that those people, are in fact, THAT stupid.

This event all started when my team that I had been assigned to for training shift were terribly bored, awaiting some sort of soul stealing beaurocrating phase review. This training shift I was a part of was a horridly executed attempt at getting the 8 gazillion new airmen that just had arrived up to speed with how things run in short order. Needless to say, it was a complete failure, but that's a story for another time.

As we were sitting idly playing our favorite game, twiddly thumb while counting the spots on the wall, an airman from a different team happened by asking if anyone here happened to remember enough trig to help him with some homework. Foolishly, I and my friend Sampson were more than happy to oblige to someone obviously in need, oblivious of the dire consequence of sheer stupidity that awaited us...

Now we had all known that this particular airmen was known to not be the brightest bulb in the pack, but such information could not prepare us for the spew of pure stupid that escaped his mouth. We were trying to explain to him how to find some angle in a 3 dimensional cubish parallelogram using information provided such as a side measurement and some other angle. In order to do this we would need to draw a diaginal line from one corner of the cube to another.

Despite repeated attempts to get him to visualize this using all sorts of random items in the room he seemed beyond all help. Inadvertently overhearing our struggle, another member of the team tried to explain it to him using a Rubik's cube they were playing with. This seemed to spark something in his mind as his eyes lit up with sudden epiphany as he exclaimed, "OH! So the line goes AROUND the cube!?" Facepalms abound, we gave up on trying to reach him on any level. We had failed, but I felt no pang of guilt about it then and CERTAINLY not now.

Sometime in the next year we continued to laugh about this completely ridiculous quote, it eventually culminating with Irish making this:

stupidLine = aroundAwesomeCube

You laugh at this airman's inability to grasp what seems like a simple concept of trigonometry. Seems pretty mean on your part, to be honest. I hope this doesn't happen to you when your weakness is highlighted to someone when you're not around.

We could start a quote section for this guy giving examples of sheer stupid...

I can understand someone not getting it when it is presented on a two dimensional piece of paper, but when someone still does not get it when presented with a 3 dimensional cube, now THAT is stupid.
