Duel Tutorial: Part 1

There is a lot to know about the Awesome Duels, so I am going to try and run through and answer a lot questions that may come up. After reading this entry, you should have a good chance of being successful when dueling.

The first thing you will probably want to do if you want to be successful right from the start is to study completed duels and see what actions resulting in what consequences. What each option does should become pretty clear with the exception of "douche punch" - I'll cover all that in another entry.

After checking out some completed duels, it is time to get into a duel yourself. Right now there are two different ways of doing that. First, you can Challenge another user or users on the site to a duel. When initiating a challenge, you must first decide how many teams you want there to be, and then how duelists will be on each team. You are limited to a maximum of 4 teams and 3 duelists per team.

Once you have decided how the teams are going to be set-up, you need to decided who you want on what teams and what the buy-in is going to be. Construct the teams how you want them by putting in the appropriate names in the drop down box. Be careful not to construct teams that are too unfair, however, as that lessons the likelihood that everyone will accept them. What makes a duel fair or unfair? Keep an eye out for part 2 of the duel tutorial. Also, be careful what you set the buy-in for, as many people do not have that many mullets.

Once you issue a challenge, you'll see the details of the challenge you just issued printed back out, and at the bottom of the challenge page, you will see the status of the challenge - which users have accepted the challenge. Users have a week to accept challenges. If a week goes by without a user accepting a challenge, it will be dropped and negative consequences will be visited upon that user.

If you are the user that has been challenged, you will see a picture appear above your menu on the left side of the page that looks like this:
You Have a Pending Challenge
If you click on it, you will be taken to the challenge page where you will be offered an opportunity to accept the challenge for the amount of mullets equal to the buy-in. If you do not have enough mullets, you will not be allowed to accept the duel.

Once everyone has accepted the challenge, the duel goes into betting status for 24 hours. During this time, people can bet on who is going to win and what round the duel will end. The odds are not posted because they are subject to change as we tweak the system (which we already have). The user who issued the challenge can force the duel to start anytime by clicking the force start button under the duel in the Duel List. The will cut off the ability to make any bets and start the duel immediately.

Now that you have gotten in a duel whether by accepting a challenge or by challenging other users, it is time to fight. To get into your duel, go to the Duel List and find the duel you are in. You can make it much easier by clicking the "My Duels" link to filter out any duels that you are not in. Click the header link to go to your duel. You may also notice this picture on the top of your menu:
A Duel is Waiting on You
That means that you can currently take an action in a duel that you are in. Simply click on that image and it will take you into a duel where you can currently take an action.

Come back tomorrow to read part 2 of the duel tutorial to learn more about what is actually going on in these duels.

You should be able to spend points to ninja attack someone whos in the middle of a duel.

Unintentional (or would it be intentional in this case?) Face-crotching could possibly be a finishing move for duels 3.0 - after we get the weapon/armor/item system working.

Hopefully within a few days there will be the opportunity to make open ended duels where you don't actually choose who is in what team.

You need to have one more action pop up randomly....the unintentional face crotching!!!

Part 2 will have much more substance that might actually help people who have already dueled. This is much more of a getting started type of thing.
