Special abilities have been a long time coming here at The Awesome Theory, but they are finally a reality. Just what are special abilities? Read on.

Special abilities are rank-based actions that you can take to hurt others, help others, or help yourself. Special abilities cost Stealth Points (SP) to use. You will have a maximum amount of SP equal to your rank level times 10. For example, a Pink Peep, which is the third rank, will have a maximum SP of 30. The primary way to get back SP that you have used is through daily regeneration. Each night you will regenerate 10% of your max SP.

You may also get back SP through mullet hunts. There is one high level ability that will allow you to increase your maximum SP as well. In the future, other ways to increase SP and max SP will become available, like equipment, and of course, purchasing these things in the mullet store.

To get started using special abilities, go to the Special Ability page. You may access the page from your Profile or by clicking on your amount of SP in the SP widget on the right side of the screen.

Special Abilities 1
Accessing the Abilities Page

Once you are on the page, you will see a list of abilities that you are entitled to use. When you get promoted, you keep all of your previous abilities and gain access to the new ones of your new rank. Scientologists and Rubber Dog Turds currently have 1 ability each, Pink Peeps and Mullet Farmers have 2 each, and the rest of the ranks have 3 each, bringing the overall total to 30 abilities.

Each ability has a name, a picture, a description, a target, a rank designation, and a cost. Underneath the rank designation of each ability is cost of the ability show as a fraction over your current SP. If you have enough to use it, the numbers will appear green. If not, they will appear red.

SP costs

There are two distinct types of abilities: ones that target yourself and ones that target others. In the case of ones that target yourself, you only have to click the "Use" button and that ability will be performed. Note that the "Use" button is disabled if you lack the required SP to perform the ability.

Special Abilities 3
The Use Button

In the case of abilities that target others, you must select a user from the dropdown list to perform the ability on. You will notice that some abilities list all users and others only list some users. This is because some abilities need certain conditions to be true in order to work. For example, the ability "Amnesia", which takes away 100 experience from a user, only lists those users who actually have 100 experience to take away. Cultivate, on the other hand, gives a user 100 experience, and will let you do that to any user.

Special Abilities 4
Selecting a Target

Understand that your actions with regards to special abilities are not anonymous. People will know what you have done to them. In a few cases, everyone will know what you have done to a user. Be warned.

As of today, only abilities up to the level of LOLcat have been opened. To avoid overwhelming high level users with a flood of abilities all at once, we are releasing these abilities in phases. Expect another level of abilities to be opened up every few days.

Finally, also understand that the amounts and costs of these special abilities are subject to change. Testing cannot anticipate all potential problems that these may cause, and we reserve the right to nerf abilities that prove to be too powerful and beef up others that are too weak. We hope you have fun with these - they were a lot of work. Tell us what you think about them in the comments of this blog or in the forums.

Are they special abilities or stealth abilities?

I know I keep bringing this up, but why keep messing with the post counts? There is seriously no point and it is easy to fix.

Is there a cap on how much SP you can have in reserve at one time? Can you answer this?

This should be cool, hopefully someday I'll be on here enough again to really check it out. Unfortunately I seem to have become a professional bottle washer....

The information in this blog should allow you to figure that out. That information will also soon be in your profile. In your case, it is 110.
