Updates and more updates

We have made a lot of small updates lately, so I thought I would address them all in a single blog entry instead of making a bunch of posts in the forums or whatever.

Equipment Rating
Equipment Rating

As you can see in the picture above taken from the Open Challenges, there is now a number next to people's names called rating. The determination of this number is quite simple. It is derived by adding a value for a person's rank (which you can now see as a small icon next to a person's username) plus a value for a user's combined equipment. Each stat adds a number to the composite score. This way, you can see approximately how powerful people are before you jump into duels. Note that this number could be deceiving because the person could have been recently Disarmed or had other equipment altering abilities used against them. A higher number is better - under 100 is pretty weak, 100-200 is decent, 200-300 is good, 300-400 is great, and 400+ is awesome.

Open Challenges
Yes, open challenges are not new, but I feel they are underused and perhaps not fully understood. If you like to duel, open challenges are an excellent resource. You can set up a duel with any parameters that you would like, and then other people can join it if they wish. Once it fills up, it will go into betting mode for 24 hours or until the person who set up the challenge forces it to start. There are frequently several open challenges sitting out there at any one time that you could join.

So how are teams set up, you may be wondering? When an open challenge is filled up, teams are assigned based on rank. The participants are ordered by rank high to low and then assigned to teams in a back and forth fashion. For example, in a 4 team 2 person duel, the first and eight ranked people will be on team 1, second and seventh on team 2, third and sixth on team 3, and fourth and fifth on team 4. This assures that the team breakout is just about as fair as possible.

Classic Duels
Classic Duels

If you have challenged someone lately, you must have noticed this change. Now when setting up duels you can choose whether you want equipment to be involved (standard duel) or no equipment (classic duel). This way, if you are lacking good equipment, you can still have a chance in duels. Remember, it is not 100% even, though, as higher ranked people still have a slight advantage.

Equipment Optimization
Equipment Optimization

In the picture above there are 8 buttons under the header "optimize for". Clicking these buttons will automatically optimize your equipment for that particular stat. Click the health button, for example, and it will equip you with the equipment combination that will give the maximum health. This is very useful if you have multiple equipment combinations for different situations, or more commonly if you have just been disarmed.

Guild Repository
If you are part of a guild, you can go to your guild's page and you will see a link to your guild's equipment repository. In this area you can drop off your unwanted equipment so that your guildmates can pick it up and put it to better use. You could even "lend" your best stuff to others in your guild to help them in a pinch. There are only a few restrictions. Chief among them being that only two withdrawals are allowed per day. This is to prevent people from constantly switching gear with each other so that two people could basically share one set of gear to do well in different duels. Also, you cannot drop off Legendary Gear. Legendary Gear are unique items that cannot be bought in the store. Finally, there is a charge of 2% of the value of the item to check it out of the repository.
