An Annoying Alt Avalanche

The Awesome Theory has been beset lately by a large number of alts. For those of you that may not know, alt is short for alternate account. Many people on this site, for a variety of reasons, have multiple accounts. For a while, this behavior had been relatively isolated and not especially abused. Now it seems that people feel they must have an alt to be competitive on the site.

The Awesome Theory's stance on alts for a long time has been to frown on them but not try to control them. That stance is about to change. Why would we want to police alts? Well, take a look at the picture below and you will see why.

Siamese Twins
Alts = freaks

So, as you can see, alts are freakish miserable entities that need to be controlled before they overrun us all. So then, the following restrictions are placed on alts.

1. Any one user is authorized only one active alt. If you have more than this, simply stop logging in as all but one of them. Any account that has not been logged into in two weeks is considered inactive and does not count.

2. An alt cannot be a member of the same guild as a user's main account. It can be in another guild, however.

3. You cannot coordinate an attack on a user with both your main and alt account. You can attack one user with your main account and another with your alt, however. Your alt does not, and should not, exist to give you more ammo in a war with a particular user.

4. An alt cannot be involved in a duel with the main account. Alts cannot throw or collude on duels for the benefit of the main account.

5. Alts are discouraged from being Ninjas. Awesome Theory staff will regularly attack alts that reach Ninja to keep them down.

6. The identity of alts must be disclosed to me. This information will not be shared outside of the staff, so if you want to try and keep your alt identity secret, that is fine and we will not ruin it for you.

Obviously, you can try and hide the fact that you have an alt and play sneaky games. Maybe you can do that and get away with it, but maybe not. Remember that just about everything you do on the site is tracked, and I can do various things to try and discover the identity of alts.

If you maintain an alt that is not disclosed to the staff and get caught, both your main account and alt account will suffer. If you break any of the above rules with your alt, both accounts will suffer. I will not disclose exact punishments as they will depend on the extent of the infraction, but they will likely include mullet fines and equipment confiscation. Maybe a hojillion stupid points as well.

Another note on the definition of an alt. If someone else signed up for an account (your wife/girlfriend/friend/roommate/etc) and you are the one that uses more than 50% of the time it is online, it is then considered your alt.

You have 1 week to disclose your alts to the staff (PMs work well for this) and get them out of guilds if necessary. If you have any questions about this policy, feel free to ask them here or in the forums. Thank you.

Good. It's sad that some people have resorted to creating all these alts in order to get a leg up. whatever happened to walking 25 miles, uphill both ways, in 4 feet deep snow to get to snow?

This was definitely needed. Yay for having fun with alts. Boo for abusing them.
